We work in conjunction with existing sea turtle conservation efforts to enhance the species recovery success rate. ( in under 3 yrs of action - our program has reduced the hatchling mortality by almost 25% in Broward county !)

We have transformed the ways in which the sea turtle hatchling population is managed - by intense data recording during disorientation events that are a "real time account" of hatchlings impacted by unapproved lighting. ( prior to our program - the totals for disoriented hatchling were only estimated during morning surveys) We provide free public workshops on lighting and exemplify the ill effects that the unapproved lighting has on the environment, its wildlife and public safety. Our workshops also encompass many everyday impacts that are detrimental to the earth’s resources. We teach with the philosophy that all life systems of the planet are connected and that what is detrimental to the planet is detrimental to the people too.
We also provide free consultation services to public and private entities in and on the coastal system - who are seeking ways to correct the unapproved lighting without compromising public safety and breaking the bank to gain compliance. Retrofitting existing light fixtures with correct wattage (40 watt max equivalent or less than 480 lumen) amber / red colored bulbs or utilizing filters that are amber / red in the light spectrum wavelength with properly placed shielding greatly reduces the impact to the sea turtles, but is also beneficial to the environment by consuming less energy.. Thus saving money and the environment.. But please remember that even a turtle friendly lighting can be bad if it is installed incorrectly.. So ask a professional sea turtle specialist and contact us prior to your purchases of new bulbs or fixtures!!! Let us help you.. It free!!! We offer custom shield fabrication at cost to anyone who needs shielding on common area lighting when retrofitting consultations and evaluations have determined that shielding is required. The Florida fish and wildlife conservation commission may not have free shields available for your particular light fixture so check us out for the next best thing.
