Down the Drains of the Parking Lot FT 505
On Saturday night Aug 20th, nest FT 505 on South Ft. Lauderdale beach hatched in perfect view of an extremely bright parking lot light owned by the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and many city street lights owned by the City of Ft. Lauderdale. These lights have collectively killed thousands (yes 1000's) of hatchlings over the years. Our group has personally met with the city manager Lee Feldman in his office to discuss these very lights earlier this summer. Nothing was done and we were dismissed. We sent video of lost hatchlings at this same location just two weeks ago and many other reports with no response.
These lights are in violation of Ft. Lauderdale Sea Turtle Lighting Ordinance Sec. 6-51, adopted in 2003 "It is the policy of the City of Fort Lauderdale that no artificial light shall illuminate any area of the incorporated beaches of Fort Lauderdale, Florida." READ ALL
